Using the plugin

After purchasing the plugin you can download it via the link provided in the order confirmation email. Upload and activate Nag Me Not using the license key provided in the same email.

Once activated Nag Me Not will automatically start in Normal blocking mode. This can be seen at the top in the admin bar.

Hover over Nag Me Not to see the available blocking modes.

  • Off: No blocking
  • Normal: Common notices and nags are blocked. Red dot notifications will still appear
  • Extreme: Even the red notification dots are blocked for a distraction free screen.
  • Custom: You own custom set blocking list. Empty by default.

Most sites should be ok with Normal mode enabled.

Managing your blocking lists

Head over to “Settings > Nag Me Not” and the “Add New Selector” section.

Enter the CSS selector (the ID or class to block), its Mode (Normal / Extreme / Custom) and click the “Add Selector” button.

It will now be included on the Existing Selectors list.

Your Existing Selectors can be easily swapped between the 3 available modes, or deactivated if you might need them in the future.

In this example you can see a selector for each mode, plus one inactive. To change “.awaiting-mod” from Normal to Extreme simply click on its Extreme link.

Importing / Exporting

In the Advanced area at the bottom of the screen you can Import from CSV, Export to CSV, Delete all selectors or reset to defaults.

If you are managing multiple websites you may wish to manage the master list on your own website, then export to CSV and import it on each of your client sites.

Power users may wish to built their own bespoke blocking lists, hiding the worse offenders but allowing others like plugin notices to be shown. To delete everything click on “Delete All Selectors” and click OK on the confirmation.

The list will now be empty, ready for you to add your own selectors.

You can also “Reset to Defaults” to remove all values and restore the lists provided out of the box.

Per User Blocking

As the maintainer of a WordPress site you might wish to see all nags and notices (just in case), whereas your clients are better off with a clean experience.

With Nag Me Not: User Settings each individual user can have their own Blocking Mode set via their User Profile.

Individual users could also have the Nag Me Not toggle in the admin bar hidden. One less distraction for them depending on your preferences.

By default all users will be set to “Use global setting”, which is Normal when the plugin was first activated.

As the admin if you switch modes via the admin bar this will change the current global setting. You can swap the global setting to Normal or Extreme for that mode to be used regardless of the global setting.
